Paul Gonella

Paul is a co-founder of Strong Island, an arts & cultural organisation based in Portsmouth that launched in 2008. The aims of Strong Island have always been to celebrate and share the incredible arts and culture the city of Portsmouth has, with a view to promoting the city’s creative industries both in the city, nationally and internationally through a number of projects and exhibitions. Working with the University of Portsmouth, Paul also worked on the first creative census for the city.

Working professionally as a photographer & filmmaker with one foot in the commercial world and the other foot in the arts community world for over 10 years, it offers the opportunity to draw inspiration, share ideas and work collaboratively across different traditional lines.

Commercial clients have included Musto Clothing, British Library, Wärtsilä, Anglepoise, Ben Ainslie Racing, The Southern Cooperative, M&C Saatchi, Co-Operative Insurance, Fat Face, Victorious Festival, Hampshire Cultural Trust and more. Paul has worked on a number of large scale creative projects engaging directly with creatives of all different backgrounds, ages and abilities.

Paul has also been a trustee of Southsea Skatepark since 2012 and still tries to kickflip now and again.
