We celebrate Black History Month by welcoming Dorothy Koomson, Nicola Williams and Claire Linney to Portsmouth to talk about their writing and promote their latest books. Dorothy Koomson is an award-winning author of 22 novels. Dorothy featured on the 2021 Powerlist as one of the most influential Black people in Britain, appeared in GQ Style as a Black British trailblazer, and was a judge for the 2022 Women’s Prize for Fiction. Her most recent novel is Give Him To Me.
Nicola Williams started her career as a barrister, specialising in Criminal Law. She has been a part-time Crown Court Judge since 2010 and is the author of three legal thrillers: including Until proven innocent (winner of the Diverse Book Awards Readers’ Choice Award 2024) and Killer instinct.
Claire Linney is passionate about the need for more stories highlighting people of African descent throughout British. Her debut children’s book Time Tub Travellers and the Silk Thief won the Ink Book Prize was longlisted for The Diverse Book Awards 2025. Claire will talk about some of her favourite ‘hidden’ figures from Black British history from Black Tudors to the Victorian circus.
